Privacy and contact
BC Tots is a free guide for BC parents. We don't have accounts, forms, ads or tracking. This page explains what does happen when you use the site. Last updated November 3, 2026.

What we collect
Nothing that identifies you. There are no sign-ups, no analytics, no advertising and no cookies set by us.
Like every website host, our host (Cloudflare) processes basic technical information to deliver pages, such as your IP address and the pages requested. We don't use it to identify you.
Searching and your location
- Address search: what you type in the search box is sent to the Province's free BC Address Geocoder to find matching addresses, including when you're typing a daycare's name. We don't save it.
- "Use my current location": your browser asks your permission first. Your location is used in your browser to centre the map. It isn't sent to us.
- Compare list: the daycares you add to compare are saved in your own browser so the list is still there next time. They're never sent to us. Press Clear to remove them.
Other services the site uses
To show the site and its map, your browser connects to these services, which receive your IP address as part of normal web traffic:
- Google Fonts (text fonts)
- unpkg (the map software, MapLibre)
- OpenFreeMap (map images for the area you're viewing)
- The BC Address Geocoder, when you search for an address
Links to other sites, such as Google Maps reviews, health authority inspection reports or Government of BC pages, only connect you to those sites when you click them. Their own privacy policies apply there.
For child care providers
Facility listings come from the Province's Child Care Map Data, which the Province publishes so families can find licensed child care. We show the same kind of information, with extra care for home-based providers:
- For home-based (Licensed Family) care, we never publish the street address or the full postal code.
- The map shows an approximate area for home-based care, always at least 300 metres from the real address.
- Links to Google Maps search by the facility's name and city only.
If something about your facility is wrong, or you'd like your listing removed from BC Tots, email hello@bctots.ca with the facility name and city. We'll remove a listing within a week of your request. Details such as vacancies and hours come from what you report to the Province, so please update them there too.
Concerns and complaints
If you have a privacy concern, contact us first and we'll do our best to fix it. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
